Environment variables on MoodLensAI, explained
Last reviewed September 13, 2026
MoodLensAI splits your deployment's environment variables into two kinds: ones it generates and manages for you, like database credentials, and ones your application needs that you provide yourself. You can see every variable's name and whether it is configured from your dashboard, but for security, values you have already saved are never shown back to you — only overwritten.
Prerequisites
- A MoodLensAI deployment from a runtime preset, or, for an AI-agent build, one with at least one release.
Steps
-
1
Open your deployment's environment page
From your dashboard, open the Environment tab for your server.
-
2
See what is generated for you
Variables MoodLensAI provisions automatically, like database connection details, are labelled "Generated by platform" and are not editable here — they are wired in for you.
-
3
Fill in application variables
Anything your framework or app needs that MoodLensAI does not generate is labelled "Application variable"; add or update its value in the form.
-
4
Save
Saving updates only the names you changed. Variable names must be uppercase with underscores, like STRIPE_SECRET_KEY, to be accepted.
-
5
Redeploy to apply changes
A running app does not pick up a changed environment variable on its own — trigger a new deploy after saving if you need the change live immediately.
Common failures
I can't see the current value of a variable
This is deliberate: existing values are never re-displayed once saved, even to you, so there is nothing here that could leak into a screen share or a screenshot. Re-enter the value if you need to change it.
My variable name was rejected
Names must start with an uppercase letter and contain only uppercase letters, digits and underscores — lowercase names or ones with spaces or symbols will not save.
I can't edit a generated variable
Variables MoodLensAI generates, like a database password, are not customer-editable through this form by design, since they are wired directly into your deployment's configuration.
Security notes
Environment values you save are stored encrypted and are only ever written to, never read back into this screen — MoodLensAI's own dashboard code has no path that displays a previously saved value.
