How to connect a private GitHub repository to MoodLensAI
Last reviewed September 13, 2026
Private repositories connect exactly the same way as public ones: MoodLensAI's GitHub connection is a standard OAuth App requesting GitHub's repo scope (access to your repositories, public and private) plus read:user. There is no separate "add a private repo" step or per-repo installation screen — once you authorize the app, every repository your account can access, private ones included, shows up for you to pick from.
Prerequisites
- A GitHub account with at least read access to the private repository.
- If the repository belongs to an organization, its owner may need to approve third-party OAuth App access before MoodLensAI can see it — a GitHub organization setting, not something MoodLensAI controls.
Steps
-
1
Start the connect flow from your dashboard
Same starting point as any other GitHub connection — there is no separate flow for private repositories.
-
2
Review what GitHub is asking you to authorize
GitHub's consent screen shows the repo and read:user scopes. repo is GitHub's scope for full access to your repositories, including private ones — classic GitHub OAuth Apps do not offer a narrower "just this one private repository" scope, so authorizing the connection means MoodLensAI can list every repository you can access, not only the one you intend to deploy.
-
3
MoodLensAI stores your connection
Once you approve, MoodLensAI records your GitHub account identity and an encrypted access token. The private repository now appears in your repository list like any other.
-
4
Select the private repository and branch
Pick it from the list the same way as a public repository, then continue with the deploy steps in "How to deploy a web app from GitHub".
Common failures
The private repository does not appear in the list
Most commonly this is an organization restricting OAuth App access — ask the organization owner to approve MoodLensAI in the organization's third-party access settings, or confirm your account actually has access to the repository.
Connecting fails or bounces back with an error
The one-time authorization link expires after a short window. If you take too long on GitHub's consent screen, restart the connect flow from your dashboard.
Security notes
Your access token is encrypted at rest and never displayed anywhere after the initial connection. MoodLensAI does not have a self-serve disconnect button yet — to revoke access, remove the MoodLensAI OAuth App from your GitHub account's authorized applications at github.com/settings/applications.
